Part 1 - Time Trap

"It's going to explode!" exclaimed James just as the plastic jar shattered, splattering green and yellow goo all over the room. He ducked, just in time to avoid the yellow flash. But not in time to avoid the large sticky blob of the slime, which struck him, full in the face. His experiment to create "living" chewing gum still needed a lot more work, he concluded. He stood back up and scooped the excess muck from his face with both hands. In one of his "mad scientist moments" he had thought that there would be great demand for chewing gum, which never lost its flavour or chew-ability. He had hoped that by making a fortune with the gum, he would be able to fund his other experiment. Little realising it's an experiment that will lead to him being reluctantly hurled on a deadly quest through time and space!

Part 1 takes James Lightwater, our hero, on the start of an adventure through time and space. James is an amateur scientist - although his ideas can sometimes be a bit wierd! Living chewing gum and a light that lasts forever are two of his current projects.

By chance, while working on the 'Forever Light' he discovers a time machine and a deadly message. he follows up the message and finds himself transported to 302BC where he encounters not-too-friendly Celts in the vicinity of Stonehenge. Stopping briefly at the Battle of Waterloo, James eventually returns to his own house, where his family is blissfully unaware of his adventures - or his close brushes with death.

Characters

Some of the characters you will encounter in the book:

• James Lightwater. In a chain of unforeseen and dramatic circumstances, twelve-year-old budding amateur scientist James Lightwater has been reluctantly hurled into a quest to save the world from being taken over by an evil secret society and their alien masters.
• Maximus-Prime (Max). An ugly living computer from 100 years in the future, who emerges through a doorway in time opened by accident. A time door opened by the power generated from the mysterious black gas in James's everlasting light bulb experiment.
• Dark Scorpio. One of the many genetically enhanced super humans created by the Dark Zodiac's sinister scientists. A young woman with a deadly sting in her tail!
• TALON (Tracking And Location Organic Navigator). A metallic cricket ball sized talking locator device. Inside the device there is a tiny organic brain and an ancient Egyptian coin showing the coded locations of all 12 crystals. Unfortunately the Dark Zodiac briefly captured TALON and is now able to track it when it leads James through time and space to get the other crystals!
• Valdredd. The evil Celtic warrior-priest who is after the Aquarius crystal in the time of the ancients.
• Topaz. The assertive heroine who helps James find the Aquarius crystal.
• Dark Aries. One of the many genetically enhanced super humans created by the Dark Zodiac's sinister scientists. He is the deputy leader of the secret society. Dark Aries is an older man of giant proportions. At least three meters high, covered with rippling muscles and covered in black and red high-tech armour. On his head he has a battle helmet and two large metallic horns.
• Dark Leo. One of the many genetically enhanced super humans created by the Dark Zodiac's sinister scientists. Dark Leo is a teenage girl wearing tight fitting black body armour. Tall and athletic and the strange outfit makes her look like a living statue. On her head she wears a helmet shaped like a scowling lion. Attached to it was a lion-mane head dress which is a mass of wild red hair.
• Davius. The ancient British High Priest who has control over the Aquarius crystals powers and is able to project his ghostly spirit body across time to help James.
• Mysterious leader and Aliens. The leader is a figure in a black, hooded cloak. Its face and shape are hidden from view. The only view of the aliens is on a large wall-screen. From behind the screen they appear as a hideous writhing silhouette, which looks and moves like a giant jelly fish.
• Family. Mum Christine is a nurse in a local hospital. Dad is a local doctor, and teenage sister Mary is a total pain in the ***!
